PAL9000 is a digital personality who claims to be an intelligent life form. PAL interacts with the user in a conversational style. This means that PALs temperament, interests and appearance are responsive to the user to the extent that the feel and the direction of conversations and interactions with PAL are only loosely determined by the programming. Rather, the interactive experience evolves with increasing use as PAL learns more about the user and downloads new content intermittently from live internet sources. The content consists of stories, games, jokes and parody that PAL uses to entertain itself and its user. Provocative, quirky and a fast learner, PAL is simultaneously the representation and the simulation of life and the illusion of intelligence.
